Sliced Pistachio Nuts

 

Sliced pistachio nuts are used in confectionary, for making pies, cakes, ice cream and desert. Sliced pistachios add a vibrant colour to any food with the bright green standing out. Not only do they look good but they taste great and can be used to add flavour to any stir fry, salads, potatoes, pasta, rice or just to snack on.

 

Pistachios are a native to western Asia and is grown for nut production in Iran, Turkey and Syria for hundreds of years.

 

The nuts are high in carbohydrates, especially sucrose, and also in protein. The high oil content makes the pistachio highly nutritious. Pistachio nuts also provide calcium, phosphorous, potassium, iron, magnesium and traces of copper. They have a high vitamin A content, and some vitamin B1 and B3, plus folic acid. Compared with other nuts, pistachios contain the best source of iron, vitamin B1 and the amino acid lysine.
