Sliced Macadamia Nuts |
Macadamia nuts used for our products are grown locally in New Plymouth from emacadamia. Sliced macadamia nuts are used by chefs world wide as a ingredient and a finishing item to many recipes. Many of the top restaurants in New Zealand are using sliced macadamias.
The macadamia nut is a native of Australia and has been extensively developed for commercial production in Australia, South Africa, Hawaii and New Zealand.
The macadamia has a high oil content, as much as 72%. Macadamia nut provide some protein (although not as much as some of the other tree nuts) but contain very little starch. They provide essential amino acids, minerals, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorous and iron. Macadamia nuts are said to be good for reducing cholesterol levels and some research results estimating that 40g of macadamia nuts taken daily will have a significant effect.
