Sliced Hazel Nuts |
Sliced hazelnuts are used extensively in European cooking, either ground or sliced. Sliced hazelnuts can be made either natural (skins on) or blanched.
The hazelnut is a small tree commonly known as the European hazel (filbert). It originates from Barcelona Spain.
Hazel nuts contain fats and oils, amino acids and compared with other nuts are one of the best suppliers of vitamin E. They also supply zinc, selenium, vitamin A, calcium and potassium, and all the basic vitamin B group are present especially B5 and B6. Hazelnuts are high in fats but do not have as much protein as some other tree nuts.
