Sliced brazil nuts are used in ice cream manufacture and many confectionary products. Brazil nuts are extremely high in selenium as they grow in selenium -rich soils. Selenium is an anti-oxidant essential in human nutrition and is now known to be significant in protection against heart disease and some cancers.
The brazil nut, one of the largest nuts of all. The tree is a native to the rainforest of the Amazon Basin and grows up to 50m in height.
The fruit of the brazil nut tree is collected regularly by hand as the fall, usually between November and August. Brazil nuts are high in calories, carbohydrates, protein (14%), fats, calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese, zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and folic acid.
