Sliced Almonds |
Sliced almonds can be used to add flavour to any stir fry, salads, potatoes, pasta, rice or for snacking. Sliced almonds should be stored in a cool, dry place and with with other fruit or vegetable products because the nuts may absorb their flavours. Sliced almonds can be kept for a long time, eaten fresh, or stored and used for confectionery or decorating cakes.
Centuries ago, almonds are said to have originated in ancient China or the Middle East. Plantings of this crop moved westward to the Mediterranean region, where Spain and Italy became major almond producers.
Almonds contain magnesium, phosphorous, calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, copper, manganese, folic acid, fats, proteins, essential amino acids and carbohydrates. Almonds are one of the best food sources of vitamin E and supply the essential vitamin B group, especially vitamin B3.
